This week in English we have been exploring our model text, a cliff hanger narrative based on our book, The Errand. In pairs, the children put their writers’ hats on and looked for features that the author used to make the writing exciting, such as using exciting adjectives to describe the setting, short sentences to create suspense and describing the character’s reactions. On Wednesday, we practised using some of these in a shorter piece of writing. We were very impressed with their enthusiasm to experiment with new punctuation and vocabulary, and we’re now looking forward to producing our first extended piece of writing next week.
This week in Maths we have completed the last lessons of our place value unit. We have been rounding 5 digit numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000. The children have been working hard on rounding numbers - many have found this a bit tricky - especially when working with larger numbers - so we will continue with this next week. You can support children at home by asking children to round prices in shops, using some of the resources below or by giving them your own numbers to round.

In history, Miss Richardson taught the children about the triangular Atlantic Slave Trade looking at how and why it began. We looked at a map of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding continents with a triangle placed between Europe, Africa and the Americas, discussing what was happening at each of the points.
In RE this week, children thought about why people translated the Bible and how Christians would feel reading the Bible in their own language. The lesson began with children trying to crack a code. They were desperate to discover what it said (and win their biscuit!). This got them thinking about how improtant it is to be able to read and understand things for yourself. We then looked at the history of Bible translation and watched videos of communities around the world recieving Bibles in their language for the first time.
I have reminded children about their homework and to record home reading in their planners.
We hope they have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
