It has been lovely to see the children back this week.
They were all intrigued by the arrival of a large box in the classroom and were surprisingly keen to get inside. We discovered it was a replica of the one Henry Brown used to mail himself from slavery to freedom. The whole class have been fascinated by the story and enjoyed seeing how his story inspired a young magician on the recent series of Britain's Got Talent. We will be using the book Henry's Freedom Box along with Unspoken to inspire diary and biography writing this half term.
In maths we have been looking at square and cube numbers using our knowledge of factors and multiples. I have seen a big improvement with times tables. We will be completing this unit on multiplication and division this week before moving on to statistics.
In history we have looked at why slavey began in the 1600s linked to our work on triangular trade before half term.
In worship this week we have been looking at remembrance in preparation for Remembrance Sunday. We held a service, silence and wrote a poem of hope for the future which is hanging on a tree outside school. We hope this will inspire others to hope for a peaceful future.
I had lovely feedback from our PE teachers this week who said they had seen an improvement in fitness, stamina, motivation and sportsmanship.
Next week we will begin our new science unit on changes and reproduction where we will be looking at physical and developmental changes a different stages in life.
I look forward to seeing you all again next week.
