Year 5 blog - w/b 24th February

Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 3:46pm

Welcome back everyone, we hope you all had a lovely half term break! The children have all come back in to school with a smile and a willingness to learn and succeed, which is always a lovely thing to see. I hope that those of you who came to see either Mrs. Field or I for parent consultations were happy with the feedback and progress they are making.

This week, we have (finally) completed our maths unit on fractions - to the delight of most, and next week we will be looking at decimals and percentages.

In English, our model text 'The Promise' has inspired some descriptive poetry of a desolate and ugly city, and a written description of the main character.

In R.E. we have looked at what the word 'victorious' means, and how this links to our Christian values of respect, friendship, hope and perseverance.

In PE, the class have started cricket - which to me seems rather early in the year, as I always picture cricket being played whilst sat in blazing sun with an ice-cold beer, but the sun did shine at least and Mr McAulay reports that they had a great afternoon - pictures below!

We have continued with our practice for SingFest, which is less than 4 weeks away now, so do encourage your child to keep up the singing! Tickets for the concert on Wednesday March 26th are available, I believe via this link:

Our performance is at 12:15-13:30pm, should you wish to come along, I'm certain the class will be delighted to see you.

Next week, we are celebrating World Book Day on Thursday - more info should be in the parent newsletter.

Have a great weekend.
