Year 5 blog - w/b 10th March

Date: 13th Mar 2025 @ 4:05pm

Hello everyone,

The spring term is flying by, and although the weather has taken a turn, Year 5 are really 'upping their game' so to speak. We have been doing mid-year assessments in English, reading and maths and it has been really good to see some excellent progress across the curriculum.

As a school we have been marking British Science Week with some live lessons from the National Farmers Union looking at how our food is produced and especially how selective breeding has allowed foods that thousands of years ago would have been unpalatable, are now part of our everyday diet.

We have also been investigating levers, pivots and fulcrums and testing the force required to balance an object each time the position of the pivot changes. See the Science Week blog for more details and pictures.

We had a special speaker in class on Thursday from the Cheshire Fire and Rescue service teaching the children how to reduce the risk of accidental fire and what they would need to do in the event of a fire at home. Called Escape to Safety, the session allowed the children to ask questions, consider scenarios and above all how to ensure that they are able to escape should the worst happen.

Do continue encouraging your child to keep practising the songs for Singfest, we are less than two weeks away and really looking forward to the event on March 26th.

Have a great weekend!
