Year 5 - Week Beginning 24th October
Date: 23rd Oct 2016 @ 8:08pm
The children have continued to work incredibly hard. In maths, we have been working on multiplying decimals and fractions. The children remembered methods well, but some found remembering their times tables tricky. I hope the homework has helped with this. Our spellings are beginning to get more challenging, but the children are keen to work hard and do well and this is certainly evident in their test scores. A particular well done to those children who have already been 'Super Speller'. It is getting more and more difficult to chose and we will be looking at spelling in English books as well as spelling tests to help us decide.
This week, the children will be writing their final warning story; hopefully they've all been practicing their plans at home. In maths, we will be working on multiplication and area. This will include multiplying 4 digit numbers and decimals. We will also be completing some exciting science work on Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Guy. I can't wait!
I will be sending a letter home later in the week confirming dates for our Victorian day in school and class assembly. Both will involve costume. For our Victorian day, children will spend the day as Victorian children taking part in: handwriting and maths lessons, finger nail inspection, technical drawing lessons (for boys) and sewing (for girls) and they will experience Victorian playground games. This day will support our topic work and will be during the first week back after half term. Children will need a simple costume.
For boys, trousers and a shirt, perhaps with the addition of a waistcoat and cap would be great.
For girls, a dark dress or skirt and top would be fine. An apron over the top might also work.
I will include pictures on my letter later in the week, but please ask if you're unsure.
I look forward to seeing you all at consultations this week,
Mrs Wood
