Year 4 Week 3

Date: 24th Jan 2025 @ 3:45pm

The children really have worked very hard this week and have approached their learning with such positive attitudes. Today, they voted for someone who is always positive and happy even when things get a bit difficult. This person was awarded a certificate in assembly.

In our Ready, Steady Spell lessons we have had a consolidation week before we move onto new learning next week. There will be no spellings sent home this week, but instead the children have a SPAG sheet to complete.

In guided reading we have started a new book: Stories from Around the World: Mulan. She holds a cherished position in Chinese culture, symbolising bravery, loyalty, and the breaking of traditional gender roles. Her story resonates deeply, representing the struggle for identity and the quest for honour in the face of adversity. At the core of Mulan’s story lies the importance of courage and determination, exemplified by her willingness to defy societal norms and fight for her family and country. We have been looking carefully at the theme of this text, and the children are looking forward to reading more.

It has been a culmination of the last three weeks of hard work in English to write three paragraphs on a twisted narrative. It has been lovely to see how much the children have enjoyed reading their stories out to each other, and once published we will be creating another class book to celebrate their writing.

It has been a busy week in maths looking at the formal written method for multiplication and then dividing a 2 and 3 digit number by a 1 digit number with and without remainders. Please see below

We have entered a NSPCC Times Table Rock Star competition on the 7th February and will be competing against Year 3.  More details to follow.

In PSED, we have been looking at the definition of a ‘dare’ and looking at different scenarios, discussing the difference between a dare and a challenge and how to keep ourselves safe.

Our Makaton sign this week is ‘I love to read’ ‘I like to read’ ‘I love maths’ ‘I like maths’

Kind regards
