Year 4 wb 3.3.25
Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 3:51pm
World Book Day has dominated the classroom activities in the past few days. Yesterday, we had great fun sharing our ideas for costumes. The children had shown great imagination and covered words such as vegetable, sustainable, fragile and confused. A wonderful effort by all. Throughout the day, we drew inspiration from the stories in the Big Dreams, Little People series including Muhammad Ali and Stephen Hawking. The fun continued today as we joined a live online session led by Thiago de Moraes, a professional illustrator.
In other reading this week, we have finished our adventures with Edward Tullane. Thankfully, Edward lives happily ever after as he finds his way back home to a descendent of his first owner, Abilene. It's a great read which the children have thoroughly enjoyed.
Our reading has influenced our writing skills also. We are now beginning to write our story (narrative) about a creature that is lost in a foreign land. At present, they are experiencing a fierce storm which sets the scene well for next week's trials and tribulations. Our key skills this week have been using commas after fronted adverbials, using a variety of prepositions and irregular verbs, such as fight/fought, fly/flew.
Maths fractions work has required our times tables skills as we begin to find equivalent fractions, such as one half and two quarters. We have also been using the vocabulary integer, fraction, mixed number and improper fraction. We have been looking at how to convert between a mixed number and a fraction.
Music was great fun again. We are making a beautiful sound as a result of our lovely bow holds. We looked at how to make a soft sound by playing near the point of the bow and how to generate more volume by the use of arm weight and bow speed.
We hope your child is enjoying learning their times tables. This week, we have covered the 3, 6, 9 and 7 times tables. Here's some fun to learn the 7s: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/articles/zjp8y9q
You will see from our photos that we have been working on Scratch this week. We have been looking at a complex game and the coding blocks required to make it work. We 'decomposed' the tasks the code has to perform and then began to write our own games as a result.
Our superstars this week are Elinor, who has been very organised and focused despite a few broken fingers, and Henry- a well-deserved member of the 2% club.
Thank you so much for another fabulous week in Year 4.
