Year 4 wb 24.2.25
Date: 25th Feb 2025 @ 4:43pm
As the sun returns, so do our Forest School sessions. Mr Simmons again provided an engaging lesson including various craft activities and physical challenges. During these sessions, it is wonderful to see how the children respond with kindness, friendship and also curiosity, showing determination and perseverence during their tasks.
Maths has entered a new phase as we begin our Fractions unit. At first we look at mixed numbers- an interger and a fraction together. These we have been placing on a number line and also working with visual representations. We have been counting the intervals between each whole number in order to work out the denominator (the name of the fraction, for example, a half). Next week, we will be looking at proper and improper fractions.
Also in focus this week was the 3, 6 and 9 times tables. We began our 144 club. The print off sheets to practise at home are on the drop down menu on the class page. This encourges the children to recall their times tables in a random manner. This will be vital for their Multiplication Times Table Check in June.
In English, we are being inspired by the beautiful book Leaf. Here we find a lost polar bear who is unsure of how to find his way home and is feeling like an outsider as he roams a foreign land. We have looked at the essentials of Year 4 sentence work this week: fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases, prepositions and conjunctions. The children have written a beautiful description of the landscape around the lost creature.
We began our journey towards Easter in RE. In this, we are looking at what trust truly is and how to be trustworthy. This topic will shine a great light on Jesus' actions over the next few weeks. Also in anticipation of Easter, we have begun our Easter songs in assembly in readiness for the Easter service.
Our Spelling has focussed on the plural possessive apostrophe (children's, boys') and silent b (numb, comb). Well done in our spelling scores today.
A fabulous book is being explored in Guided Reading : The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tullaine. Edward is a toy bear who thinks rather a lot of himself. He dresses with pride, including his golden pocket watch. Unfortunately, he is currently on a unexpected journey as he has fallen overboard from a cruise liner. He is currently living with Nellie who has changed his name to Susanna. We look forward to more adventures with Edward next week.
Well done to Jack F who has entered the 2% club and also to Isabella who is Star of the Week.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
