And so to the last half term of the year. How it has flown!
One of the highlights this half term will undoubtedly be Forest School. Mr Simmons has deceided to continue our theme of Vikings as there are so many further learning opportunities in this field. Whilst we were in York, we went to an excellent session at The Dig which explored the war craft and fighting skills of the Vikings. This was the theme of our session last week as the children learnt how to make a bow ready for arrows. In true Harry Potter wand style, the children had to find a wood that was strong and yet pliable. There was also the option of learning how to knot string tightly enough to make a sword from two well-chosen pieces of wood.
In both English and Maths, the children have begun new units. Firstly in English, we are using the books 'Stories for Boys who Dare to be Different' and 'Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls' as inspiration for our biographies. The children have really enjoyed reading about inspiring people and they have already discovered lots of interesting facts about them. In Maths, we have just started our new unit on statistics!
The children have had a fantastic two weeks, where they have been introduced to their new Science and Geography unit. In Science, we are investigating electricity. Last week, we were lucky enough to experiment with circuits, where we learnt how to light a bulb. In Geography, we have started to explore volcanoes - the children have looked at famous volcanoes and where they are located. We can't wait to learn more!
