Year 4 wb 10th October
Date: 10th Oct 2022 @ 12:23pm
This week began with our whole-school assembly. Mrs Mclean spoke of her favourite saint, Saint Francis of Assisi, and how he chose to follow his own path by showing kindness to those in need- something his father appeared to disaggree with. Emily, Jasmine and Neve played Saint Francis' life out in a mini-drama, plus puppets! Each class was given a box in which to record moments of kindness throughout the week.
In English, we continued to write a newspaper article about a rare sighting of the Great Spotted Whale. We looked at features of a newspaper, including a headline, by line and date, and also began to use our direct speech writing skills. Excitingly. we were visited by a fisherman named Fred Bernard Mitton who spoke of a creature not from this world!
In maths, we are now beginning to master exchanging and carrying in addition. This is a key skill as the children move through this school and the next and I am very pleased with how the children are trying hard to hone this skill.
Below are the wonderful self-portraits the children and Mrs Taylor have been working on. They have been thinking carefully about creating skintone colours from watercolours- a tricky thing to do!
As the week drew to a close, Year 4 found that their box of kindness moments was nearly full, more full than any other class according to Mrs Mclean. They should be proud of themselves.
Over the weekend, see if you have a moment to log the children on to Times Tables Rock Stars. Their tables are improving every week and they really enjoy the Friday 3-minutes Times Tables Race.
Hoping you have a fun-filled weekend.
