Year 3 WC 4th September
Date: 9th Sep 2017 @ 10:21pm
We've had a brilliant first week in Year 3. We began by looking at our British Values and thining about how we embed these in the classroom, such as voting for our representatives for the different councils we have in school. In assembly our focus was the importance of rules in school so we thought about these a little more and created a class charter to follow.
Our topic for this half term is Stone Age to Iron Age. We were really interested to find out just how far back in history the Stone Age is! The children have been demonstrating their artistic skills as we recreated some cave paintings. We learnt that they mainly painted animals and that they made the colours by grinding down rocks before adding saliva or animal fat to make a paste.
All children should now have a reading book within their colour band. They are encouraged to read at home four times a week and record this in their planner. We are now using magpie books which the children use to 'magpie' any good ideas they come across when reading. This could be when reading their own book, during guided reading or when we share a story together. These books will stay in school however if they come across a great word/phrase/sentence opener that they want to magpie, pop it in their planner and they can add to their magpie book in class.
This year in Year 3, the children will be learning to play the recorder. These will be coming home this week (sorry!) but they must remember to bring them into school every Thursday.
