Year 3 w/c 30.9.19
Date: 29th Sep 2019 @ 2:19pm
What another lovely but busy week we have had in Year 3! We would like to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who came to the harvest festival and for all the time the children had spent practising our class song at home. We also spent a lot of time practising as a class so it was so lovely to see all the children enjoying themselves when performing to you all.
In English this week we have planned and written our first piece of writing based on our text 'Return'. The children have created some beautiful setting descriptions based on the mysterious forest and have included lots of the skills we have been working on, like using similes and prepositions in our writing. In maths, we have completed our place value unit and are beginning work on addition and subtraction, using lots of resources to show how we can add and subtract numbers.
In topic this week we have been looking at the journey of a river and creating pictures to show the different parts of the river and how they are formed. This is our first piece of work for our topic books. We have also began looking at our art unit, the work of Monet, and been experimenting with colours ready to create our own piece of Monet inspired artwork next week.
We are looking forward to the week ahead, individual photos are on Monday 30th so please ensure children have jumpers or cardigans and ties with them. We have another busy week ahead with more writing in English to create our final piece of writing in our setting description unit and we will be working hard in maths to add and subtract using exchanges where needed. This could be tricky at first but I know we will all work hard to get the hang of this! We will also be continuing our magnets work in science. This week Mr Cotton will be taking the children for this lesson as Mrs Pirie is out on Monday so Mr Cotton will be taking the class for the day.
Finally, a huge well done to all the children for their continued hard work and effort in lessons, you have all produced some lovely work so far and I am looking forward seeing what else you create this week.
We hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready for the week ahead,
The Year 3 team
