The children have worked very hard this week and impressed me with their super understanding of fractions. We have been finding fractions of shapes, quantities and amounts, and even tackled some very tricky reasoning and problem-solving type questions. We will be continuing with fractions this week before moving onto using formal methods for division.
In English we are now at the invention stage so the children will be writing their very own mystery stories. Watch this space...hopefully we will be able to share some of them on the website next week.
In Science the children were given the task of investigating whether some surfaces require a greater force to pull something. Luckily the rain held off long enough and we were able to go outside to measure the force needed to pull an object on the concrete, grass and stones outside. This week in Science we will be learning about magnetic forces between magnets.
On Friday we began looking at the Romans. The children shared what they already knew and began to ask questions about what they wanted to find out. We started by looking at how the Roman Empire grew over many hundreds of years and they were most intrigued by how much it increased! We will be continuing with this, using maps to find out the names of the countries that the Roman Empire controlled and creating a timeline to show this.
