Year 3 w.b:10.6.24
Date: 14th Jun 2024 @ 2:36pm
In Year Three this week, we have focused on how to be a good friend and what makes our classroom a happier place. We really enjoyed creating a display together to share our ideas.
In Maths, we have been learning how to interpret data using bar charts and pictograms. Data means information. You can collect data by showing it in tables, charts or graphs. We discovered it makes the information easier to read and understand but it is important to read all the different parts of the table, chart or graph when we are working out what the information is telling us.
In English, we have been very busy describing settings. A setting is where and when a story is set. When we are writing a story, the setting is really important. We thought about what the setting is like, is it day-time or night-time and how does the setting impact on the characters. We used some brilliant adjectives and noun phrases to describe our settings.
In RE, we have been looking at the words said during a harvest festival and the lyrics of some harvest festival songs. We sang Harvest Samba while thinking about what the words mean. We discussed the questions 'What do the words tell us about what Christians believe about harvest?' and 'Why is harvest important to Christians?'. The children had some very thoughtful responses and understood that harvest is about saying thank you to God; it's a time to be grateful for the food we have and also think about others who may not have as much; it's also a time to share and a time to celebrate God's creation.
In Art, we learnt about two very interesting artists Alberto Giacometti and Andy Goldsworthy. Alberto Giacometti was a Swiss artist who specialized in sculpture, drafting and printmaking. He is widely regarding as one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. Andy Goldsworthy OBE is an English sculptor, photographer, and environmentalist who produces site-specific sculptures and land art situated in natural and urban settings. We found out that the materials used in Goldsworthy's art often includes brightly coloured flowers, icicles, leaves, mud, pinecones, snow, stone, twigs, and thorns. We were amazed to find out that sometimes he even used cow poo! Mrs T drew the line at painting with cow dung though. 🤢
In PE, we were thrilled to be joined by a member of the Cheshire Cricket Team. It was such fun! We showed off our throwing and catching skills and Mr M was ever so proud at our confidence and skill progression.
In Computing we continued our learning on online safety. We learnt that some things on the internet are false as anyone can post anything online. People post videos or fake news to deliberately scare or mislead people, like the spaghetti harvest we watched on Panorama last week. We realised that like films and books, not everything online is true. People also upload altered photographs or videos that are funny but not real. Most importantly we understood that people can hide behind fake profiles and pretend to be someone they are not. Finally, we all agreed we should always ask permission from whomever the content is about and only post if they are happy with it being shared online. Also, not to post any content we would not like to be shared about ourselves. We thought about how it might make us feel if it happened to us.
In Music, we played and sang our socks off. Not long now until you see our amazing performance!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and take the time to do what you love.
