Year 3 W.B: 27.11.23

Date: 1st Dec 2023 @ 2:59pm

Yet another amazing week in Year 3!

In Maths, we have been learning the 3 and 4 times tables, we learnt a song to help us with both too!  We then had to figure out missing numbers in the tables sequence and also found out that division is the inverse of multiplication.

In English, we began by writing a ‘writer’s toolkit’ to help us plan a letter from our character in our recent stories.  We then began to plan what we wanted to include in our letters, things that we saw and heard on our journey.  We learnt how to set out a formal letter properly, our address should be written in the top-right corner of the page, the date should be written below our address and below the date on the left-hand side of the page, we should write the recipients address.

In Science, we learnt that light always travels in a straight line - when it hits a solid object, usually a shadow is formed. We also learnt the terms opaque, translucent and transparent - and why a bathroom window in particular, needs to be translucent!  We tested some objects around the classroom to see if they made a solid shadow when a light was shone behind them - and proved that these objects were opaque. Finally, we sorted a number of objects into the correct categories.

In RE, we read a variety of nativity storybooks that particularly emphasised that Jesus is God here on earth. We then discovered that Mary knew Jesus was coming but the world did not so we thought about how the world did find out.  We also discovered that the angels told the shepherds and they rushed down from the hills to visit the baby so we then thought about what questions we would like to ask the shepherds. Finally, we turned our images, ideas and feelings into poetry or pictures.

During our 'My Happy Mind' session this week, we recognised the Character Strengths in ourselves and thought of times when we have used each strength. We then drew our self-portraits and wrote our character strengths around the edge.

In Computing, we designed, wrote and debugged programs that accomplished specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solving problems by decomposing them into smaller parts.  We then used sequence, selection, and repetition in programs and worked with variables and various forms of input and output. Finally, we used logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work and how to detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs.  We then created a code that used the Start block when the green flag was clicked.

* Made the robots disappear and move.

* Made the robots reappear and go to a random place.

* Made the robots appear and disappear forever.

* Made the sprites disappear and make a noise when clicked on.

In PE, we practised passing and footwork. We then played bench ball after consolidating some of the netball rules that we have learned.

In Spanish, we revised animals and colours to begin with, we then wrote some silly sentences in Spanish.  I wonder if you guess what ‘Soy un caballo’ means in English?

In Music, we learned how to play Jingle Bells! It was such fun.  We clapped out the rhythm first by using our cat, dog and monkey sound technique. We then blew Mrs Landon's socks off by singing 'Xmas Time' and then playing our trumpets, clarinets and saxophones. I’m sure the children would love to play it to you all at home!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
