Year 3 w.b: 24.6.24

Date: 28th Jun 2024 @ 1:08pm

Another fabulous week in Year Three, full of finding the time to the nearest 5 minutes, analysing travel reports and creating wonderful sculptures with natural materials.

In Maths, we have been learning how to tell the time. We have learnt how to tell the time with increasing accuracy and we know how to tell the time to the hour and half past also how to tell the time to the nearest five minutes and quarter to/past an hour.

In English, we had a very unusual visitor who burst into our classroom. Petunia Price, a well-renowned travel reporter for a highly regarded magazine told us all about her amazing adventures in magical cities. Petunia was in trouble though, she had lost all of her journal entries which she needed to give to the editor-in-chief at Horizon Highlights Magazine - if she didn’t find them, she would be fired!  Petunia Price, explained she needed our help to write more reports our own amazing adventures.  We, of course were more than willing to oblige.

In R.E, we learnt about how harvest is celebrated around the world. We were given a different harvest festival to research and we used oil pastels to create artwork showing our festival and then found out some facts to share with the rest of the class. We discussed how even though harvest is celebrated around the world in lots of different countries, there are many similarities. They are all about bringing communities to together to celebrate and say thank you.

In Spanish, we have been learning how to say 'quisiera' or I would like.. followed by an ice cream. We have also learned how to say please, thank you, and, and or. We have then been asking questions as a shop keeper and replying. It was such fun!

In Art, we started our sculpture topic. Sculpture is a form of artistic expression that involves modelling, sculpting or carving stone, wood or other materials. Sculpture is considered one of the 7 arts, alongside music, painting and dance, and sculptors can use it to express themselves through the use of volume and space. We used lots of different natural materials to express our own art just like the artists Walter Mason, Richard Long and Andy Goldsworthy.

In P.E, we have enjoyed another session with Harry, from Cheshire Cricket Coaching.  We really enjoyed a game of ‘caterpillar cricket’.  Whilst one person hit the ball, the others batters had to run between two cones.  Everyone enjoyed this really fun game!

In Geography, we have been learning about the continent of Europe, locating Europe on a world map and the oceans and seas that surround it. We then moved on to naming and locating some of countries within Europe using an atlas to help us.  We learnt that that London is the capital city of England. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. Belfast is the capital city of Northern Ireland. And Cardiff is the capital city of Wales.

In Computing, we identified the effects that the internet can have on people’s feelings.  We learnt that online content can sometimes cause people to feel upset and we discussed ways to help our friends deal with any upsetting content.

In Music, we rehearsed our lines and music ready for our concert.  You will all be amazed at how we can play in harmony.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, it’s a chance to recharge your spirit and refocus your goals.
