Year 3 w.b: 17.6.24

Date: 21st Jun 2024 @ 4:13pm

This week has been filled with dancing in the aisle at church, writing our portal stories and interpreting data from several different types of charts.

In Maths, we have continued our learning interpreting data from different types of charts.  An important life skill is that we know how to read and understand information offered to us in a variety of different formats and styles.

In English, we continued to write our portal stories.  Our stories involve our main character visiting another world via a portal.  Our portal was through a little wooden, red door encased within an old gnarly tree trunk.  Our new worlds were filled with completely different things and used our senses to describe what our characters heard, saw, smelt, felt and tasted.

Rev. Sandi had us dancing in the aisle during our church visit, it was such fun!  We were busting our moves along to a new hymn ‘God is Good’.  We then began to think about love and loving each other and how it is really important when we think about our friends and our families.  Jesus taught His followers that we must love God and love our neighbour.  We are going to try our best to be good friends and make our class a happier place.

Mr McAulay organised a wonderful sports morning, filled with rounder, athletics, yoga, foot golf, boccia and netball.  We had the chance to experience a new sport or skill and our smiles were certainly on show for all to see.

In Science, we began our unit on Rocks and Solids, we started looking at the three different types of rocks:  sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.  By testing the durability (using sandpaper) and permeability (using drops of water) we were able to make some very interesting conclusions about how these rocks were made.  We learned that metamorphic rocks used to be other types of rocks before they came into contact with either very high degrees of heat or very high amounts of pressure.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, enjoy the  beautiful weather.
