Year 3 w.b: 15.4.24

Date: 19th Apr 2024 @ 2:42pm

Welcome back everyone, we’ve had a wonderful first week back in Year Three!

In Maths, we have been practising working on the four operations . We then began our measuring capacity and volume in litres and millilitres unit.  We had to read several different scales and work out how much liquid was in the jugs.  We had to look carefully at the numbers on each scale.

In English, Mr Spilsbury rushed into our classroom and said there was a lot of strange metal strewn around the playground.  We rushed out to investigate.  We then asked lots of questions to try and find out what had happened.  Realising, the Iron Man had paid us a visit overnight and had left spare nuts and bolts, we got to work on describing the Giant made from Iron.

In History, we began our Roman’s unit.  The Romans were a fascinating civilisation that lasted for 500 years, the civilisation began in 753 BC when King Romulus founded the city of Rome (naming it after himself).  It was really interesting to find out how the Romans came to Britain.

In PE, this week we recapped fielding skills- throwing and catching from our cricket unit. After this we practised how to bowl in rounders and how to bat. We looked at rules in Rounders as many of us haven't played before! We then played a match where we were learning some of the rules and practising the skills as we played.

We had a wonderful walk to church this week, the sun was shining and the birds were singing.  We played a little game of 'Who's who?' some of us were blindfolded and we had to guess who was talking.  Rev. Sandi then told us a story about Jesus being everyone's friend and how Jesus walked amongst people and they didn't recognise him at first but once they did, there was great joy.

In Forest School, we discussed all the inventions we have the Roman Empire to thank and innovations that made life easier for the people of ancient Rome.  We then told Mr Simmons that a giant made from metal trampled all over our playground and left lots of strange metal objects lying around, we decided to make traps to try and trap the Iron Man. It was such fun!

During our SCARF lesson, we discussed how to eat healthily and how to prepare a balanced meal. We said we should have a mixture of foods that contain carbohydrates, dairy, protein and lots of vitamins and minerals. We then created a healthy menu to share at a party.

In Music, we had great fun singing along then playing our instruments to some old favourites, like ‘Boogie Shoes’ and ‘Rocket Ship.  We are getting so confident now and can’t wait to show you all.

Just a quick reminder the lunch menu changes next week:

Monday's choice is either fish fingers or a cheese sandwich with salad, Tuesday is either lasagne or jacket potato, Wednesday is either an all day breakfast or a ham sandwich, Thursday is either a chicken slider in a bun or cheesy pasta and Friday is either a sausage roll or pasta italiene all served with fresh salad and a choice of sides.

We are also trying to develop our outdoor reading area, if anyone has any sturdy outdoor plants they would like to donate, we would be very grateful.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
