Year 3 w.b: 13.5.24
Date: 17th May 2024 @ 2:43pm
What a wonderful week in Year 3, it has been filled with writing threatening narratives, adding and subtracting money and learning what the bones in our bodies are called.
In maths, we have been working hard adding and subtracting money. We had a selection of items to choose from and had to work out how much they cost and how much change we received from a £10 note. We were then challenged by making up our own money word problems and had explain why £2 and 72 p is equal to 272p.
In English, we have continued to write our threatening narratives about a colossal metal machine fast approaching a small, quaint village. We used short sentences to build up the tension, used ellipsis (…) to create the what happens next moment, used similes and metaphors for description and to show the characters' feelings.
In Science, we learnt that the human skeleton is made of bones and they grow as we grow. We cut out a picture of a human skeleton, then had to put it back together in the correct position and label the bones. Them bones, them bones them dry bones. The toe bone's connected to the foot bone. The foot bone's connected to the ankle bone. The ankle bone's connected to the leg bone, Now shake dem skeleton bones!
In Forest School, we built Roman bridges from clay, sticks and leaves. Did you know? The Romans built long durable bridges. Many of their bridges still stand today. They used stone and concrete to build their bridges and used the arch as the basic architectural feature to make them strong. The largest Roman bridge ever built was the Trajan bridge over the river Danube. It was over 3700 feet long and 62 feet high.
In Art, we had a wonderful afternoon creating our very own robot sculptures. Sculpture is art in 3D (three dimensions). Sculptures can be made by carving, modelling or placing materials together. They can be made out of stone, wood, clay or any other material that artists want to use! We had great fun even though we did have the odd leg or arm go astray during the gluing stage.
In Music, we learnt a new song ‘The Eye of the Tiger’ It was written as the theme song for the 1982 film Rocky III, Mr M took this a tad too far this week and thought he was actually Rocky Balbao. Mrs T just enjoyed dancing along to the music as your wonderful children played along. They are certainly growing in confidence. It was so lovely to see how much they have improved and it was such fun!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and hopefully the sun will be making an appearance again so enjoy the sun on your face and warmth in your hearts.
