Year 3 class blog w/b 11th October
Date: 17th Oct 2021 @ 3:16pm
We have had another busy two weeks in Year 3! This will be the last blog until after half term. I hope you all have a restful half term to recharge your batteries; it has been a long first half term after the summer break and I’m sure everyone is feeling rather tired at this point.
Maths
Over the past fortnight, we have been adding 3 digit numbers to 1 and 2 digit numbers, finally working to adding two 3 digit numbers using the column method. We have even looked at where exchanges happen and have used practical equipment to show this process. The methods are very similar to what you may be familiar with from school but please check out the calculation policy on the Year 3 page if you want to practise at home.
English
We have just finished our guided reading text, Oliver and the Sea Wigs! It was a great read. After half term we will be reading the Many Worlds of Albie Bright if you haven’t purchased a copy but would like to.
In English we have been looking at the 7 natural wonders of the world. We have been working on sentence level work and some short burst tasks, but next week we will be writing a non-chronological report about one of the wonders, using research from our homework.
Other areas of the curriculum
This week in Science, we have continued to experiment and explore magnets.
In Forest School, we have been making dens using a ridgeline to ensure it is waterproof!
In RE, we completed an assessment about our two RE stories of the half term.
In Geography this week, we have been looking at countries and capital cities in South America, as well as physical features such as the Amazon River.
Parent consultations will either be on Tuesday morning or Thursday afternoon, if you still need to make an appointment to discuss how your child has settled into Year 3.
