Year 3 Blog Week Beginning 24th January

Date: 30th Jan 2022 @ 8:03pm

We have had an interesting fortnight at school in Year 3! Thank you for your support with homework and Rockstars, as well as reading daily at home.

Maths

Over the past fortnight we have been learning to multiply 2 digit numbers by 1 digit, as well as dividing 2 digit numbers by 1 digit; we have then applied this to some very tricky word problems.

English

We have been analysing the model text based on ‘Into the Forest’ before moving onto planning our own lost narrative story! Next week, we will be writing our stories.

Other areas of the curriculum

This week in Science, we were observing plants that were growing under different conditions; one without water, one without sunlight and one without warmth. We have been measuring and observing the plants to see how these conditions affected the plants. The one without water particularly suffered, while the one without sunlight looked quite unhealthy. Surprisingly, the one outside did remarkably well in the cold conditions.

In Forest School, we have been making bird feeders for the local wildlife. In RE, we have been learning about the parable of the Yeast, while in Art we have been finding out about Georgia O ‘Keefe.

In PE, we have been learning and applying gymnastics skills; in Geography, we have been finding more about Europe, including its countries, their currencies, languages and whether they have monarchies or not.

Due to cases rising around school, we have been and will continue to be extra vigilant in Year 3, by washing hands regularly, cleaning regularly touched surfaces, using our own pencil case and equipment, and remaining in a bubble, among other things. Work will be set on Showbie daily for anyone self-isolating; work set will be in line with whatever lessons we are doing in school so I would highly recommend completing any tasks if you are well enough. Please note that work on Showbie is for children who are generally well. There isn’t any expectation to complete work if you are poorly, as we wouldn’t ordinarily set homework if someone was unwell. Please let me know if you need anything on Class Dojo.
