Year 3 blog w.b 6th January

Date: 8th Jan 2025 @ 2:30pm

Happy new year everyone! We have had a fantastic first week back and lots of fun in the snow! I have attached a few photos from Tuesday when we had lots of snow! A very memorable break time.

In English this week, we looked at picture and word clues from our new book 'Fox.' We predicted what the story may be about and then thought of similes from pictures in the book to describe Fox. After this, we explored new vocabulary and wrote setting descriptions.

In Maths we have been focusing on multiplication and division. We have been looking at number families e.g. knowing that 3 x 4 is 3 ones x 4 ones which is 12. Because we know this, we can work out 3 x 40 for example. 3 x 4 tens is 12 tens, which is 120.

In spelling, we have been dropping the y before adding ies, adding ing to words ending in y and consolidating common exception words. In guided reading, we have been answering questions about rivers and mountains from our new non fiction book.

In History we learned how Henry VII came to be the king at the Battle of Bosworth and we began to look at Henry VIII who is our focus this term.

In Art we made a lovely card for Mr Spilsbury to show him that we are thinking of him and then we researched the artist Gwen John, who campaigned for women to become known artists . She loves to paint her cat Edgar.

In PE this week we were learning how to dribble using our finger pads in basketball. We dribbled at different levels and on the move, applying this new skill to different exciting games.

Homework will restart on Monday. Please bring this in for the following Monday and keep up with daily reading as well as times tables practice.
