Year 3 blog w.b 13th January

Date: 17th Jan 2025 @ 2:29pm

We have had a super week in school in noticeably warmer conditions! Homework has restarted and is due in on Monday. Thank you for your support with this. Please continue to read daily and practise timestables when you can (2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 8s, 10s).

In English this week, we analysed the example text and made a writer's toolkit this week. The fable narrative was about a devious bear! We then thought about the vehicle text and thought about how we could describe the cunning fox. It was very enjoyable reading the character descriptions that the children thought of.In spelling, we have been dropping the y before adding ied and ier e.g. fried and happier. In guided reading we have been focussing on a non fiction text about Rivers and Mountains!

In Maths we have been focusing on multiplication and division. We have been looking at the link between them e.g. knowing that 3 x 4=12 so 3x 40=120. Also if this is the case 12 divided by 4= 3 and 120 divided by 4= 30. We have also began to use a written method for multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers e.g. 24 x 4. 20 x 4=80 and 4x4=16. 80+16=96 so 24 x 4=96.

In History we leanred all about Henry VIII's 6 wives and learned a song about it. We also looked at Henry VIII's family tree.

In Computing we learned what the different parts of the computer do e.g. CPU, RAM and ROM. I was impressed with the children's knowledge.

In Art we looked at different textures and sketched using different techniques while in Music we learned a new song: Minor Burns!

In PE this week we played lots of fun tagging games for tag rugby and learned how to pass backwards. We also practised dribbling and passing in basketball!

Have a wonderful weekend.
