Year 3 blog w.b. 10th January

It has been fantastic to have the children back in Year 3 after the Christmas break!  We have just started our new topics for the half term which include plants in Science, learning about Europe in Geography and learning about a new parable in RE, related to the new Kingdom of God unit.

Homework has now started- Showbie English and Mymaths tasks will be set on Monday and due the following Monday. Please read daily and practise times tables to support our learning at school.

Maths

Over the past week and a half, we have been learning how to multiply 2-digit number and 1 digit numbers using a formal written method. First, we have been partitioning the tens and ones number and then multiplying it by a one digit number e.g. 23 x 4… 4 x 3=12, 4 x 20=80, 80+12=92, so 23 x 4=92.

English

We have enjoyed finding out and writing short burst writing tasks related to our new vehicle text ‘Into the Forest.’ We have been using adverbs and conjunctions to improve our writing.

Other areas of the curriculum

This week in Science, we have been learning about parts of a plant and what they are for. Next week, we will be finding out how different conditions affect a plant’s growth and depriving a plant of particular conditions e.g. light, warmth and water.

In Forest School, we have been working on our team building and problem solving skills. In RE, we have been learning about the parable of the Sower and the Seeds, while in Art we have been finding out about Georgia O ‘Keefe.

In PE, we have been learning new gymnastics skills; in Geography, we have been finding out about the different continents and specifically the continent that we live in, Europe.

We have also enjoyed our No Outsiders lesson about discrimination; we discussed what this meant and that there was no room for it at our school, because there are no outsiders at our school- everyone is different and everyone is welcome.
