Year 3 blog 15th September

Date: 15th Sep 2024 @ 10:22am

We have had a fantastic first full week! The children have worked really hard this week and are really getting into the rhythm of Year 3 expectations. Everyone has been sent home with a levelled reading book. Please read daily to support your child. Homework will start next week. This will consist of a spelling task for English and Maths from a homework book. I will Dojo details tomorrow.

In English this week, we looked in depth at the note that was in the bottle and looked at the features of the setting description. We have been using apostrophes for possession and contractions, used commas in a list and various other features like expanded nouns this week. Finally, on Friday we planned our setting descriptions which we will write next week.

In Maths we have been looking at and partitioning numbers up to 1000 and looking at the value of each digit. We have an extra column now in Year 3: the hundreds column.

In Art this week, we looked at two famous artists: Joseph Turner and Claude Monet who both focused on light and using watercolour! In History, we were introduced to a very important time in history: The Industrial Revolution. We are looking forward to finding out lots of facts about this in the coming weeks. In Music, we were all given a new instrument and we are very much looking forward to playing these and learning new notes and songs! In Computing, we were learning about networks. We had a go at finding our school’s network and various other bits of tech around the school! In PE, our focus was on passing in PE and this week, we put all of our skills into practice when we played matches at the end! In RE, we learned what a prophet is and how they spread the word of God.
