Year 2 Week Beginning 2nd October
Date: 8th Oct 2017 @ 8:36pm
This week we would like to start our blog by saying huge congratulations to all the children for the Harvest service. We hope that every child is as proud of themselves as we are of them! Although they were a little nervous about leading the serving, it was a great success and enjoyed by all.
Although a lot of practise has gone into the service this week, we have also been doing many more activities in the classroom. As you will all know, the children were asked to decorate a dragon’s egg this week, which we then used to inspire our poetry writing. The week began by reading the book ‘Tell Me A Dragon’, which included a variety of descriptions about a variation of dragons. The children were then able to take a dragon’s egg and imagine what it might look like inside, before going on to use similes and alliteration to write their description. As a bank of these built up, the children used lots of descriptive language to create a line poem.
In Maths, we have looked at using the bar model to complete our number bonds to 20. The children have practised the technique of putting the larger number in their head and then count on. We will continue to apply this rule when moving on to adding and subtracting one and two digit numbers next week.
In Science this week, the children have looked at the importance of hygiene. We discussed some of things that may be included in this, such as; brushing teeth, washing hands, having a bath and wearing clean clothes. The children could make a cross curricular link and discuss the times in the day that they do these things and why it is important to do some of these things more than once.
Thank you to those of you who have helped the children to complete their English and Maths homework. The children are really benefitting from this and the results are evident in their work in the classroom.
As we all prepare for another busy week, we hope that you are able to have a relaxing weekend.
