Year 2 Week Beginning 16th October
Date: 21st Oct 2017 @ 8:59am
What an exciting week it has been in Year 2 this week! In English we have been writing our instructions for ‘how to trap a goblin’. The week started by adapting the instructions for ‘how to trap a dragon’ and quickly moved onto to ‘how to trap a goblin’ in our class shared write. The children were immersed in creative ideas for the different traps we could use on a variety of creatures.
In Maths, we have been looking at adding two 2-digit numbers. The children started this by adding on 10 by using a hundred square and then progressed onto using a number line and adding on tens and ones. This week was quite a challenge as some apparatus we usually use was taken away and we were encouraged to use our mental calculations. This is something that is progressing well but we would still encourage like to looked at when at home and in a variety of situations; this could be when you are in the supermarket, at the petrol station or in any other setting.
In science this week we have been looking at how humans and animals have offspring. We discussed the names for the young of many different animals and then moved onto sequence the order of a human’s life.
Yesterday, as part of Diwali celebrations we all had the most fantastic time exploring the traditions that take place during this festival of light. We compared it closely to our Christian celebrations. The children made divas which are put around the house during this time to celebrate. They also made sweet truffles which are traditionally given as a gift as well as learning a traditional dance. Please see our gallery posted yesterday to view some of the photos taken.
As it was Diwali day yesterday our spelling test did not go ahead as normal. This will be done on Monday so that the children get to opportunity to show all of their hard work.
