Year 2 WC 3rd May 2021
Date: 9th May 2021 @ 9:29pm
We've had a very hard-working week in Year 2 as the children have been busy planning, writing and redrafting their persuasive letters to the King from our text, The King who Banned the Dark. They have been fantastic in using all the persuasive devices they have learnt over the last couple of weeks to write their letters persuading the King not to ban the dark. They came up with some great ideas such as Santa not being able to deliver his presents as he will be spotted and lose his magic. We also have some mischievous boys and girls who described to the King how sleepovers won't be as good when they can't sneak downstairs in the cover of darkness to pinch treats from the cupboard!
In maths we have continued with fractions focusing on recognising and finding a half and quarter. Miss Raja has been very impressed with their reasoning and being able to use mathematical vocabulary in their explanations.
In RE we have continued to learn about symbols which represent the Holy Spirit. We looked at symbols of wind, water, fire and a dove and discussed what their characteristics are and why they are used by Christians to represent the Holy Spirit.
In DT we are going to be making moving dragons out of card using split-pins to make linkages. A couple of weeks ago we researched toys: how they move and what we like about them. We used this to create a design criteria and then started to plan our own designs. The children also enjoyed having a go at practising different linkages ready for when they make their final design in a couple of weeks.
