Year 2 WC 30th September 2019
Date: 4th Oct 2019 @ 7:56pm
Monday was very exciting in Year 2 as we came into school to discover that two of our chrysalides had transformed into butterflies over the weekend! By breaktime our final butterfly had appeared. We gave them some sugary water and some pear. Once their wings were strong enough we set them free.
In maths we have been using the inverse to check our calculations. For example, we can check 15 + 4 = 20 by doing 20 - 4. This would tell us that we have made a mistake. Next we went onto comparing number sentences using the greater than and less than signs (< and >). We are now working on using our number bonds to 10 to work out number bonds to 100. Please keep practising number bonds to 10 so that your child can recall them quickly without having to work them out.
In English we have been looking at a biography of Mary Seacole. We have done lots of drama to explore how she felt at different times in her life. In our grammar lesson we have looked at contractions, e.g. did not= didn't. This will lead to us writing a biography about another 'hero'.
Today we have had our first Spanish lesson with Mrs Bond. We learnt some simple greetings and practised using them when answering the register.
If you've seen our Facebook page then you will have seen the children's fantastic artwork inspired by Roy Lichtenstein. They developed their sketching skills when drawing their portraits and then used felt pens to create bold pictures. This week they have used cotton buds and paint, and then compared the effect. I'm sure you'll agree they look fantastic!
This week we have welcomed two new associate teachers Miss Jackman and Miss Pannikot. We are really looking forward to working with them over the next few months.
