Year 2 WC 2nd November 2020
Date: 8th Nov 2020 @ 9:16am
I hope you've all had a lovely half term. It's been wonderful to see what the children have been getting up to through the photographs shared on Showbie and I've enjoyed sharing their adventures with them. If you are having any problems registering on our new platform, please let me know as this is replacing the pupil area on school spider and all homework will be posted to here.
We've had an exciting start to the week in English as we met two terrible baddies, Filth and Vacuum, from our story Send for a Superhero. As always, the children had some fantastic ideas about what they might get up to. We've completed some writing about the characters using different sentence types and using conjunctions to extend.
In maths we are working on addiing and subtracting two digits and ones (e.g. 34 + 3) and two digits and tens (34 + 30). The methods we use for adding and subtracting can be found here http://www.breretonprimaryschool.org.uk/uploads/156/grade/340252_grade_file.pdf
In year 2 the children are introduced to the column method as well as using a number line. We also encourage lots of pictorial representations, e.g. drawing the tens and ones, to help their understanding.
In geography we looked at where the UK is in the world and they were fascinated by comparing our country to others on Google Earth. We then learnt which countries make up the UK and what their capital cities are before completing some map work. In our outdoor learning, we researched some famous UK landscapes and used the environment to have a go at making them.
In art we started to draw self portraits in the style of Roy Lichenstein and I know they are looking forward to the next stage when we start to add colour.
I hope you've had a lovely weekend
Mrs Saunders
