Year 2 WC 26th April 2021

We've had a wonderful week in Year 2 this week. In English we have been continuing with our work on The King who Banned the Dark. On Monday an important letter from the King arrived informing us that he was banning the dark. After hearing lots of new vocabulary, we did some research using dictionaries and thesauruses to find out the meanings and synonyms. Then together we made a class dictionary. In the following lessons we demonstrated our understanding of these words by putting them into sentences. Miss Raja and I were very impressed as children were trying really hard to write exciting sentences using expanded noun phrases, and even some similes. Next we thought about how the dark makes us feel and generated lots of adjectives to describe the dark. We used these to write some amazing alliterative poems!
In maths we have finished our Length and Height unit with some problem solving. This was a good opportunity to practise our addition and subtraction strategies that we learnt in Autumn term. We have then moved onto Fractions, ensuring we understand what it meant by
