Year 2 WC 23rd September 2019

This week we started with a topic day all about Mary Seacole. We learnt all about her life and how she helped so many people. We also discussed how she never gave up on her dream, despite being turned away several times. This should help them with their homework this week as they already know lots of facts about her life.  

In English the children have once again showed off their fantastic imaginations writing their own superhero stories. They have had to create their baddies and superheroes who are going to try to save the day. 

In maths we have started on addition and subtraction. First we started looked at fact families, e.g. If we know that 12 + 6 = 18, then we also know that 6 + 12 = 18 , 18 - 6 = 12 and 18-12 =6. It was a little confusing when the = was on the other side as they also need to understand that we can say for example, 12 = 18 - 6. Now we are working on using this to help check answers.

In RE we acted out the story of the ten lepers. We discussed how Jesus helped the lepers to not only feel better on the outside but on the inside too. 

I hope you enjoyed our harvest celebration this morning. It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents.
