Year 2 WC 14th September 2020
Date: 20th Sep 2020 @ 8:14pm
This week in Year 2 we have been continuing with our sentence work in English using illustrations from The Night Gardener as a stimulus. We have used drama to bring pictures to life and then used our ideas in our writing. It is excellent to see how hard the children are trying with their handwriting and they're beginning to join their letters.
In maths we have focused on partitioning two digit numbers. Although they understand that a number splits into tens and ones, e.g. 45 = 4 tens and 5 ones, we are still finding understanding this is 45 = 40 + 5 more tricky. So we will continue to work on this over the next couple of days. For further challenge, we also look at different ways of partitioning, e.g. 45 = 30 + 15.
In RE we looked at the story of Moses and the Burning Bush again, drawing upon our role play from the previous week to produce some written work to show our understanding of what this story tells us about God. The children had some interesting points of view and were able to talk about them confidently.
In PSHE we have looked at The Colour Monster who is all different colours because he's feeling all mixed up. We thought about what makes us sad and what we do to help us to feel happy again, e.g. talk to someone, give our pets a cuddle, play some music etc. We taked about feeling angry and how we make ourselves feel calm again. The children produced some super writing for our display as well as using oil pastels to create their own masterpieces of the colour monster.
You may have seen Mrs Gleave in our classroom each morning this week. Mrs Gleave worked at Brereton several years ago in Reception as a teaching assistant so is very familiar with our school. She will be working in Year 2 every morning to support our learning and we are really enjoying having her work with us.
You may have seen that there are several pieces of work on the pupil area of the website. Please don't panic! Any work that is labelled 'home learning' is the learning that we are doing in class for those children who are self-isolating. The English homework is also uploaded here so you may have to scroll down to find it. I also put the guided reading texts on there which correspond to the labels in your child's planner. MyMaths will continue to be set each Monday. The phonics homework I will upload to the website but also send home a paper copy. You don't need to hand these in as they are for you to practise with your child at home.
I hope you've had a lovely weekend
Mrs Saunders
