Year 2 WC 10th May
Date: 13th May 2021 @ 9:55pm
In Year 2 this week we have been continuing with our work on The King Who Banned the Dark, beginning our fiction unit of writing. We have studied the text, identifying new vocabulary. In order to learn and internalise new vocab, we have played with the words by acting them out, spelling them, matching the words to pictures and definitions, lots speaking the words in different contexts and then finally we wrote our own nonsense stories using as many of our new words as possible. Today we have been exploring the character of the King ready to write character descriptions tomorrow.
In maths we have been continuing with fractions. Miss Raja has been very impressed with their understanding of new mathematical language such as equal parts, numerator, denominator, unit and non-unit fractions, and being able to use these in their explanations.
In RE we have been learning about the Holy Spirit and the symbols Christians use to represent this. The children then designed their own symbol based on these and discussed why they chose it.
In music we have really enjoyed singing this week. We have learnt a tongue twister called 'Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry' and a song called 'The First Days of Summer'. They are absoluetly brilliant and it is a joy to watch and listen to them enjoying the music. Each week we have also been listening to some different jazz classics and the children have listened and discussed what they like about them.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
