Year 2 w/b 9th December 2024
Date: 13th Dec 2024 @ 4:15pm
What a performance the children put on twice this week for you all. Busy, Busy Bethlehem was great fun to rehearse for, and the children did us proud by learning their lines and stage directions. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! It is definitely beginning to feel a lot like Christmas now!
Collective Worship - we thought about what Christmas means to us. Some ideas included spending time with our families and friends, being thankful for everything we have, giving people gifts and spending our time helping others and donating to charity. What does Christmas mean to you?
RE - What do angels look like? What do angels do?
Angels are wonderful symbols in early Christian art. They represent messengers and communication between God and man. Images of angels symbolise hope, love, faith, compassion, protection, and remembrance. The children drew their own interpretations of what they think angels look like.
PSHE – When someone is feeling left out.
We talked through some scenarios to see how they would feel to be part of a group and to be left out of a group. We identified which groups we are all part of and found common interests with different people. We also drew our own strategies for helping someone who is feeling left out.
English
To finish with our text, The Night Gardener, the children have written their very own diary entry in the role of William. They have been using first person, expanded noun phrases, conjunctions to add extra detail and ensuring that their handwriting is lovely and neat.
Maths
The children have completed their end of term assessments which included two papers; an arithmetic paper and a reasoning and problem-solving paper. Everyone tried their best and didn’t give up so we are very proud of them.
PE
This half term in PE our focus has been on ball games with a focus on the following skills: finding a space and catching a ball, passing the ball to someone in a space, following an opponent to win the ball, intercepting the ball and communicating with my team to score. It has been wonderful to see these skills develop through simple bench ball, handball and super hero ball style games. Simple games such as piggy in the middle can also reinforce these skills at home.
Art
To complete our unit of work on portraits and the art of Roy Lichtenstein, we have created our own painted portraits using Ben Day dots and primary colours. We have also answered questions to share our knowledge and to explain why le like or dislike this style of popular ‘pop’ art.
Spellings – There will not be a spelling test next week so there are no new spellings to learn.
Well done to Harrison who performed in the Rock Steady Concert, he was the singer in his band and did a fabulous job, very proud of you!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Lindersen and Mrs Forrester
