Year 2 w/b 5th December
Date: 8th Dec 2022 @ 5:26pm
What a fantastic week!
On Monday afternoon, we were very fortunate to be able to go to the New Vic Theatre to watch Alice in Wonderland, what a wonderful performance it was! The children have also worked so incredibly hard and performed so wonderfully in their Nativity, we were so glad to be able to share this with you. What superstars!
In English this week, we have been planning our own superhero narratives, drawing on our ideas from our recent letters. This was inspired from analysing the model text last week. We focused on including lots of ambitious vocabulary in our plans so that we remember to use this in our writing next week.
On Tuesday afternoon, we enjoyed an exciting science experiment when looking at the importance of hygiene. To do this, we filled a bowl with water and pepper and observed the difference between putting our hands in the water without washing them and putting our hands in the water after washing them. We found that when we put our hands in the bowl without washing them, the pepper (germs) would stick to our fingers. After we had washed our hands and placed them in the bowl, the pepper (germs) would move away from our hands. This helped us to understand that washing our hands is so important in removing germs.
On Thursday afternoon, we looked at ordering and summarising events in the life of Florence Nightingale in history. We later compared similarities and differences between medical care now and in Victorian times. A shocking fact we learned was that in the Victorian times, nurses didn’t wash their hands or administer medicine!
In maths this week, we have been practising the column method for addition and subtraction, crossing the tens by exchanging 1 ten for 10 ones (which you may know as borrowing). With lots of whiteboard work, the children are now experts!
There are a few dates to be aware of next week:
Monday- Christmas party
Tuesday- Victorian Day
Wednesday –Christmas lunch
Thursday – Forest School
Thank you ever so much for all of your support this week with costumes, drop-offs and being part of the wonderful audiences! I am so proud of each and every one of the children for their hard work, both on the stage and within the classroom.
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.
