Year 2 w/b 30th September 2024
Date: 4th Oct 2024 @ 4:54pm
In our collective worship this week, we looked at this quote from the Bible. It is from the book Corinthians and was written by St Paul.
'Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.'
I wonder why he said this and what it means for us? We discussed what this mean for our school and how we work together?
You are part of this school – so it is to do with you!
If someone is upset -it is to do with you!
If litter is one the floor – it is to do with you!
If something is wrong – it is to do with you!
We are all part of one body and we need to work together. If one of us suffers, we all suffer!
If one of us is celebrated, we are all celebrated.
RE
We shared the story of Mary Jones from Wales, who, for six long years she saved all she could until the day came when she had enough money to buy a Bible. At the age of 15 Mary walked 25 miles to buy her very own copy of the Bible, which became her most treasured possession. The actions of Mary Jones led to the setting up of the Bible Society. She didn’t know that would happen but her actions have made a huge impact on the lives of thousands of Christian people worldwide. We discussed how our actions could help others and made a pledge to display in our classroom.
English
The children found a letter from Tom (The character from our text – The River) on Monday, asking them to write him a letter to help him by describing the place where he is travelling and any dangers he may face. The children have been looking at the features of a letter and started to plan their response.
Maths
Our focus continues to be addition and subtraction. This week we have been looking at fact families e.g. 15 + 2 = 17, 2 + 15 = 17, 17 – 2 = 15 and 17 – 15 = 2, related number facts e.g. 2 + 6 = 8 and 20 + 60 = 80, bonds to 100 and adding and subtracting one. Using resources such as Base 10, 100 squares and number lines are great resources to support learning and we continue to work on counting backwards in ones, twos, fives and tens from one hundred.
PSHE – Being a Good Friend
To recognise that friendship is a special kind of relationship. As a class we identified some of the ways that good friends care for each other.
Good friends mostly do:
- Share their things
- Look after each other
- Are kind
- Notice is someone is being left out or feeling lonely
- Help each other with their work
- Other ideas
Good friends mostly don't:
- Act selfishly towards friends
- Ignore each other
- Don't take notice of someone who's being left out or feeling lonely
- Leave people out
- Stop listening to each other
- Start telling lies
- Other ideas
Geography
We used our fieldwork skills and observational skills to study the geography of the area around our school. The pupils then drew maps of our walk to church, ensuring they used a key to show what they see on the walk to St. Oswalds Church.
DT
This week we cut out our puppet templates and details to bring our puppets to life ready to start sewing next week. We are very excited to see our puppets come together.
Science
This week, we looked inside a red book at different measurements showing how babies grow and put on weight. We soon noticed that some babies can double their weight in a short amount of time. We concluded that this is very different to us children and that babies grow a lot quicker than we do. Finally, we looked at how we have changed not just physically but also the things we can do that we couldn’t as a baby.
PE
This week we looked at 1, 2, 3 and 4 point balances. It has been wonderful to observe the transformation of children over the past four weeks and their new-found gymnastic control and focus. So many pointed toes and strong body shapes.
It was wonderful to see so many of you in church for our Harvest Service on Wednesday.
Don’t forget that the Learning Exhibition is next Thursday, 10th October, 9-10.30. The children look forward to showing you all of the great learning they have completed so far this year.
Have a restful and enjoyable weekend,
Mrs Lindersen and Mrs Forrester
