What a wonderful week we have had in Year Two! The Christmas festivities are well and truly in full swing. Here you can find a snap shot of the things we have been busy doing this week…
Spellings
Spellings being sent home to learn this week are:
Tuesday, Wednesday, February, Friday, January, July, August , Spring , Summer, once
Please practice these in any way that works for your child, ideas have been sent home on a spelling strategy sheet. Keep this sheet safe and use to help learn the spellings each week – we call this our ‘memory lock’.
RE - Why was Jesus birth such good news?
We have continued to look at how good news is told in the Bible, then the children wrote brilliant newspaper articles reporting on the good news of the birth of Jesus and the visitors he had when he was born, finishing with a quote form Mary and Joseph about how they felt giving birth to the Son of God.
PSHE – How do we make others feel?
Our lesson was about recognising and explaining how a person's behaviour can affect other people. The children were split onto small groups and followed a script about a child who pushed another child over, the child retaliated by pushing back, then when it happened again the other child responded with kindness and asked if they wanted to play a game. As a class we discussed which was the better way to deal with this situation and what we could do if we ever found ourselves in this situation.
English
The children are coming to an end with their diary writing, this week t hey have been practising writing first person paragraphs in preparation for their own diary writing next week.
Maths
We have completed the last lessons on shape this week by sorting 3-D shapes and making patterns with 2-D and 3-D shapes. Next week will be the assessment from what we have learnt this term in all of our maths lessons.
Science
This week we have consolidated all that we have learnt this half term and created personal hygiene posters to demonstrate how to wash hands effectively.
History – Victorian Schools
We had a round up of what we have learnt in History this week. Ask your child the following questions and they will be able to tell you what they have learnt, you will be very proud of their learning as we are too.
- Who is the Victorian era named after?
- What was it like at Brereton C of E Primary School when it first opened in 1830?
- What is one difference between our school now and when our school first opened in 1830?
- What equipment was used in Victorian schools?
- Name two jobs children may have had in the Victorian times.
All the children have been working hard to practice their lines for our Nativity and are very excited to show you next week.
We have also been very lucky to be able to watch Reception’s Nativity which we thought was absolutely fabulous!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Lindersen and Mrs Forrester
