RE
This week we listened to the story: The man lowered through the roof (Luke 5:17-26) where friends helped their paralysed friend who could not get through a crowd, so they lowered him through a roof and laid him down right in front of Jesus. As a class we discussed: why did the four men did this for their friend? How did the man feel as he was lowered? How did the man feel when Jesus spoke to him? How did he feel as he walked out of the house? What were the disciples/crowd/owner of the house thinking? When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” We talked about how we learn from this story and can help our friends.
English – The Bog Baby
This wee we have been looking at the features and language used in a set of instructions – ‘How to build a beautiful home for a Bog Baby’. The children having being using commands and commas in a list. We have been working hard to present our handwriting and ensure that the letter formation is correct and all the same size.
Maths
Work has continued on Multiplication, the ‘X’ symbol has been introduced and the children have been learning all of the vocabulary that they could use: lots of, groups of, multiplied by, times. Please continue to use the TT Rockstars app to help your child to become confident in the quick recall of their 2s, 5s and 10s timestables.
Geography
The children looked at a variety of foods and identified where different foods come from around the world by looking closely at the packaging. On a map of the world we recapped the different continents and the countries in those continents and researched other foods from those countries. We used the website: https://www.foodmiles.com/ to help us work out which food had travelled the furthest to get to our plates. Why don’t you look at the foods in your cupboard and see if you can see how far away your food has come from.
PE
This week our learning objective was to dribble a ball using my feet in a variety of directions with control. We used a range of fun games to work on this skill but our class favourite was the game ‘duck tails’. Working on dribbling and ball control at home would be a fun weekend activity.
Design Technology
This week we designed our final pizza creations. We had to ensure we had ingredients from all areas of the ‘eat well’ plate to create a balanced meal. We look forward to making them next week.
Science
Following on from our seed germination investigation last week, we looked at the results and made careful observations. We could see the impact of light and darkness on the seeds and came to our own conclusions. We made detail observations of cress seeds growing from a time-lapse video to answer our own questions about how seeds grow.
Have a lovely weekend, we look forward to seeing you next Thursday at our second learning exhibition.
