Year 2 w/b 25th March

Date: 28th Mar 2024 @ 4:23pm

Year Two have, once again, worked wonderfully this week.

After last week’s wonderful stories about finding an unusual creature, this week, the children applied their learning in order to independently write a story about finding a magical object. It was great to see that the children had remembered to use lots of fantastic story language in their writing, alongside their own unique ideas.

Our first spelling rule this week was the ‘o’ sound spelt ‘a’ after ‘w’ and ‘qu’. This rule applies for words such as want, wash and quality. Our second spelling rule was adding the suffixes -er and -est. We learned that if a word ends in a short vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u) + a consonant, we double the consonant before adding -er or -est. This rule applies for words such as bigger, biggest, hotter and hottest.

In maths this week, we have carried out a variety of calculations using litres.

To conclude our history learning for this half term, we completed our comparison grids, comparing the time periods within which each of our three queens ruled. This prompted some rich discussions about the progress made across different aspects of life and the changes that we think have been most significant. We then enjoyed a quiz to ‘prove what we know’ about Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.

In PE this week, we focused on bounce passes, chest passes and dribbling the ball.

We were very lucky to have a special visit from the theatre on Tuesday morning. The children really enjoyed a professional performance of ‘The Selfish Giant’.

This week we have read, reflected and prayed about the days that led to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. We have also explored symbols to help us understand the meaning of the Easter story.

Thank you for your continued support. I hope that you all enjoy a wonderful, restful break and I wish you all a happy and blessed Easter. The Year Two team are looking forward to seeing everybody back in school on Monday 15th April to begin another excellent half term of learning.
