Year 2 w/b 24th June

Date: 28th Jun 2024 @ 5:27pm

We have had a great week of learning in Year 2!

In English, it was finally time to write our own explanation texts. It was wonderful to see everyone’s creative and unique ideas and I thoroughly enjoyed reading each text to understand how all of the inventions work. We then published our work in our most beautiful handwriting.

Our first spelling rule this week has been adding the suffix -ness. We learned that we can add the suffix -ness to many root words to make a noun. This rule applies for words such as kindness, foolishness and lateness. Our second spelling rule has been adding the suffix -ment, this rule applies for words such as enjoyment, amazement and payment.

In maths this week, we have continued with our unit ‘Statistics’. We have been focussing on:

  • Reading and interpreting pictograms where one symbol represents one item. We found totals and compared amounts.
  • Reading and constructing pictograms in which symbols represent more than one item.
  • Reading and interpreting pictograms that have symbols representing more than one item.

On Tuesday morning, children completed their fitness assessments. We all impressed Mr Aspinall with our improvement since January!

In science this week, we looked at different materials: plastic, towels, playdough, sponge, elastic band, felt and cling film and tested whether we can stretch, squash, bend and twist them.

In music this week, we continued to work on our jungle composition in our groups and focused on the pitch, rhythm, beat and pulse of our piece.

In art, we looked at how Lowry used white to add a tint to colours and black to add shade. We then practised creating our own tones of colour and we realised that if we added yellow to green, it made a better shade, rather than adding white.

In RE this week, we revisited the story of Pentecost and thought about what happened before, during and after the disciples had received the Holy Spirit.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
