Spelling –
Spellings being sent home to learn this week are:
simply, rosy, chalk, almost, call, wall, mum’s, dad’s, who, whole
Please practice these in any way that works for your child, ideas have been sent home on a spelling strategy sheet. Keep this sheet safe and use to help learn the spellings each week – we call this our ‘memory lock’.
English – Grandad’s Island
The children have started the non-fiction writing unit this week and looking at the language features and structures of an information text. We looked at how the facts were organised together into paragraphs, with sub-headings. The children then started colleting information for their own short burst writing on one of the following animals; macaw, orangutan or a giant tortoise.
Maths –
The children stared the week comparing mass, then learning how to measure in grams and kilograms then finishing with solving word problems with all 4 operations.
PSHE – Feeling Safe
We began by talking about places where we all feel safe, then discussed how our bodies react when we feel unsafe. The children held discussions of what to say in different situations where they might need to ask for help, they learnt what they could say and who they could ask for help, including calling 999 in an emergency.
History –
The boxes came in useful to start creating the Tudor houses that were around in 1666 when the Great Fire of London occurred. It was a great lesson to work as a team to create something together.
Science – The children used the data collected last week to create correctly labelled bar graphs of the number of minibeasts spotted. We discussed the reliability of the data collected and the reasons for some of our findings.
PE – It is been a joy to observe the progress of the children with small sided ball games. We reinforced our throwing and catching techniques as well as learning how to move to intercept the ball.
Art – We used our string prints to start our pictures based on the work of Hannah Dunnett. Some people practised writing out prayers in her style to make sure they had the skills for the final picture,
