Spelling rules
This week we have focused on possessive apostrophes, where something belongs to somebody or something e.g. Dan’s bag, Ella’s ball. Its is an exception to this rule- we only write ‘it’s’ when it is short for it is.
Maths and English
In Maths this week we started our new Power Maths and it was wonderful to see how the children got on. Our focus was division by grouping and sharing; there was also a focus on how multiplication and division are inverse operations and we used practical equipment to show this. In English we planned and innovated our own stories which were similar to that of Jim and the Beanstalk.
RE, Science and foundation subjects
In RE we continued our focus on the Kingdom of God and the children thought about what the kingdom of God might look like and things they would expect to see or not see in this.
In Science, we received a letter from the Giant stating that he wanted us to grow our own runner bean plants; we thought about what plants need to survive and started a scientific investigation to see how water affects the growth of a plant; some plants had no water, others had the right amount, while others had too much. We made our predictions and made sure most other variables were the same to make it a fair test. We made our prediction before planting our own beans.
In topic, we looked at the differences between arable and livestock farming and made a map showing this in the UK. In PE, we continued with gymnastics and Mrs Taylor taught year two a music lesson. The children enjoyed programming in Computing.
