Year 1 WC 3rd December 2018

We started this week with our Polar Express day. The children entered the hall after being handed a ticket to board the Polar Express. We watched the first 10 minutes of the film while enjoying hot chocolate and marshmallows. After we encouraged the children to think about how they felt and describe what they saw. This led to some brilliant descriptive writing about the train using interesting verbs and adjectives. We then wrote our letters to Santa. I was really pleased to read there are so many children in this class that always listen to their parents and help with jobs around the house! Santa will be very pleased!
This week we have been carrying out end of term assessments in maths, reading and SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). These are done in small groups with no pressure put on the children. They usually quite enjoy coming to do their quiz. We'll be continuing with these assessments next week.
My phonics group will be doing their test on Monday instead of today. I won't be setting any homework now until after Christmas as they have a very busy week with two performances and the theatre trip on Wednesday. Don't forget it is also Christmas jumper day next Friday!
