Year 1 WC 17.9.18
Date: 22nd Sep 2018 @ 8:08pm
This week in Year 1 we have been innovating our story maps in English. I have been very impressed with the children's brilliant ideas! They are working very hard to write their stories and it's been super to see their enthusiasm for writing. This week we will be starting our next story, The Three Bears.
In Maths we have continued with place value focusing on partitioning numbers into tens and units, and finding 1 more/1 less. To challenge the children further, we are looking at problems like 'I am one year older than my sister. My sister is one year older than my brother. My brother is 7. How old am I?'
In Science we have started to look at the seasons. We began by thinking about what we already knew about the seasons and what we would like to find out more about. Next we sorted different words associated with the seasons and matched them to the correct photograph. We realised that some types of weather occur in all seasons.
In RE, we acted out the story of how Jesus chose the tax collector as one of his disciples and considered how this was 'good news'. Jesus chose Matthew even though everyone else disliked him and showed his kindness.
In our Wednesday worship, we discuss big questions within our class. This week we thought about the quote 'the best things in life are free.' The children thought about what made them happy and we had lots of responses that included doing things with their family. We concluded that although money helps to buy some experiences (holidays, days out, etc), the important things that made us happy were love from our family and spending time with them.
Don't forget it is our Stay and Make on the 16th October. Please complete the form on the bottom of the letter or pop a note in your child's planner to let us know if you are attending.
