Year 1 WC 11th March 2019
Date: 17th Mar 2019 @ 3:06pm
Year 1 have been working very hard this week. In English we started our new text, Why Leopard has Spots from the Tinga Tinga tales. We've used various drama techniques to explore the story and the characters which has led to some brilliant writing.
In maths we have been counting in 2s and 5s, continuing number sequences and spotting patterns in the numbers. Please continue to practise this at home, particularly counting backwards from 50.
In RE we looked at El Salvadoran crosses, learning that they represent all the good things in someone's life and they give hope. The children then designed their own crosses.
In geography we learnt about the continents, particularly looking at where Africa is to link with our topic. Looking at the world map, we discussed how we would get there and estimated how long it would take. Then in art, we experimented with oil pastels to create animal patterns and drew some amazing African animals.
We have started rehearsing for our class assembly on Friday. We would love for you to join us to share what we have been learning about this half term. Our assembly is in the school hall on Friday 22nd March at 3pm. This week's homework is to practise their lines.
This week we have parent consultations. I'm really looking forward to meeting with you to share your children's hard work and celebrate their progress so far.
