Year 1 w/b 9th December 2024
Date: 13th Dec 2024 @ 2:03pm
What a magical week we have had! We have thoroughly enjoyed performing our KS1 nativity ‘Busy, Busy Bethlehem’ for you. It is a privilege to be telling the story of the first Christmas over 2000 years ago. We have been blown away by the children’s confidence and joy as they shared the story of the birth of Jesus with everyone.
The children have worked so hard preparing for the nativity and I’m sure you will agree they were incredible during their performances. We are so proud of every one of them and hope you thoroughly enjoyed watching the nativity. A huge thank you for all your help and support with the fantastic costumes.
In English, we have finished our traditional narratives and wow… they were fantastic! We were amazed by the creative ideas that children had on how to trap their bad characters.
In phonics, we have focused on the sounds u-e (huge brute) and o-e (phone home). This week, we have started completing our reading assessments so we shall let you know next week, once all assessments have been completed, if your child will be moving book colour or if they need a little longer to reinforce certain taught sounds. We have been delighted with the children’s progress both in their reading and writing this term. Thank you for continuing to read at home!
In maths this week, we have completed our arithmetic paper (paper 1) of our end of term assessment. We will be completing our reasoning paper (paper 2) next week. We have also been focusing on place value (within 20) with Miss Rais. We have focused on the following:
- Developing children’s understanding of 10.
- Developing children’s understanding of 11, 12 and 13 as 1 ten and some ones, or “10-and-a-bit”.
- Matching numbers to representations using cards showing 14, 15 and 16 in words and numerals alongside representations of each number.
In DT, we have continued to work on our comforters for Rapunzel. We focused on stapling, gluing or safety pinning our materials together.
The children really enjoyed our science lesson this week. We thought about all of our different senses and went on a sense walk around our school grounds to see what we could see, hear, smell, touch and taste. The children were very observant and were able to identify which body parts were associated with each sense.
We have another busy week next week with our KS1 Christmas party on Monday afternoon and our Christmas dinner on Wednesday.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend.
