Year 1 w/b 7th December

Date: 12th Dec 2020 @ 2:45pm

Well what an extremely busy and heart-warming week we have enjoyed in Year 1. The children looked absolutely wonderful as they arrived in school in their nativity costumes on Thursday and we were so proud of the way in which they all knew their lines, stage direction, songs and actions. We filmed it on Thursday but also hope  to re-film on Monday afternoon when we hope everyone will be in school. We’ve attached a few photos below to whet your appetite.
We completed our report innovation for Beegu . Our innovated report described the friend we made for Beegu in Design and Technology. We have been really impressed by the children’s memory for report writing, where they used interesting sentence starts and reported on where Beegu’s friend came from, its physical features, diet and habitat. There was much evidence of great use of spelling ( including split di-graphs for white, cute and make) and punctuation too.
In Maths, we have marched on with teaching of subtraction and comparing different strategies including the use of a number line. We have also completed maths assessments in mental arithmetic and reasoning where the children could show us how much they have learned from this term.
Within History we have looked at the lives and mission of 2 further astronauts, Dr Mae Jemison the first African American who went into space, and more recently Captain Tim Peake who lived and studied aboard the International Space Station for 6 months at the time most of the children in Year 1 were born. It was lovely to have time to help the children select, wrap and write labels for their presents in Elfridges this week.
Next week we have another lovely week planned :
Monday – Incarnation day in nativity costume (am) and re – filming of Whoops a Daisy angel (pm)
Tuesday- Space day. Please arrive in school dressed up as your chosen space character or scientist for a full day of space themed learning. Be prepared to construct rockets, act out moon landings, assemble astronauts, make aliens and compose space music and dance.
Wednesday- Christmas maths, Christmas cards and Christmas dinner . Please wear your Christmas jumper . We hope also to have a visit from Father Christmas .
Thursday- Reflections on Whoops a Daisy writing task, Christmas shape maths activity and science senses at Christmas
Friday- Reindeer cake decorating, Christmas games/ puzzles and the Christmas miracle of Jonathan Toomey reading with a carved wooden nativity, plus forest school Christmas . No need for wellies this week.
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday for a festive final week together before we finish school on Friday.
