Year 1 w/b 5th December 2022

It’s been another wonderful week to teach Year 1 and we have thoroughly enjoyed performing our Busy, Busy Bethlehem nativity for you. It is a privilege to be telling the story of the first Christmas and we have been amazed at the children’s confidence and joy as they shared the story of Jesus’s birth with everyone.
The children have worked so hard preparing for the nativity and I’m sure you will agree they were absolutely incredible during their performances. We are so proud of each and every one of them and hope you thoroughly enjoyed watching the nativity.
Our other exciting event this week was space day! First of all, a huge thank you for all your help and support with the fantastic costumes. There was great excitement as the children arrived at school and we were amazed by the vast array of imaginative ideas the children had for their costumes.
During the day the children took part in a range of activities. We started the day thinking about our solar system and how astronauts have been exploring space. We then had a range of activities including making space cakes, making star gazing sensory bottles, creating artwork, building rocket out of construction and making moving astronauts. We then used our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes to create rocket pictures.
In the afternoon, we finished of our Design and Technology for this term. We have completed our projects by using the joining methods we researched at the start of this unit to join our comforters/puppets. This was the trickiest part and required us to develop our chosen methods. Once complete we were able to evaluate both our finished products and the methods we used. Thinking about the parts we liked, the things that were a challenge and the things we would change next time. As you can see from the photographs all children were extremely proud of their creations and can’t wait to bring them home to show you very soon!
Finally, we enjoyed listening to some space music thinking about how the music make us feel. We listened to the rhythm of the music and moved our bodies in time with the music.
We have attached some of the many photos taken today, we are sure the children will love to tell you about all of the fun and exciting things they did. It really was a day to remember!
