Year 1 w/b 4th March 2024
Date: 8th Mar 2024 @ 8:00am
Asking and answering questions as either Nora or the tiger has been a keen focus in English this week and we have been pleased with the children’s attention to detail using punctuation accurately. In addition, we have explored the impact of adjectives in describing the characters in ‘Tiger in the garden’. World Book Day was a great opportunity for us to celebrate books and our day started with Mrs Winward, our Patron of reading explaining her process in writing, editing, and publishing a book before we had the opportunity to share a favourite book with our Year 4 buddies. After a fantastic tea party themed lunch we continued to look at our favourite books and what makes them special we created reviews of the books and looked at the books of famous well known authors.
In phonics this week, we have focused on wh (whisk whisk!) and ph (take a photo!) so spelling homework next week will reflect this focus.
During maths, we have continued counting in 10s and 1s to 50. This is such an important part of children’s understanding, knowing which digit is the tens and ones in a 2-digit number and confidently counting in 10’s and 1’s. We have also enjoyed using lots of different ways to represent numbers to 50 using resources such as, ten frames, 100 square grids, bead strings, numicon, and part- whole models to show how a number is made up of 10s and 1s.
In Collective worship having considered the journeys made in the Bible from the Old and New Testament we thought about our journeys in life. We explored how we have improved in maths, rugby, reading and grown friendships. We all need to go on a journey to improve and having the support of our friends and family on this journey is wonderful. In PSHE our focus was respect and responsibility around and about School Having explored our environment as the world around us that can affect our lives we looked at our school environment, both inside and outside. We love our school and classroom environment and considered many ways we look after it.
In PE this week, our focus has been on passing the ball with the inside of our feet. This reflects our PE termly focus, football fundamentals. The children played some fun activities, working as a team whilst developing their listening skills. Increasing their confidence and skills when controlling the ball and stopping it immediately when hearing the signal was important.
In History this week we introduced our new unit of work focussing on homes from the past. To create a personal connection to the topic we started with our own homes and what they look like and will use this starting point to delve into history.
Within our RE time, we enjoyed writing prayers about our Mummies and exploring the Mothering role of Moses’ mother, sister, and the Pharoah’s daughter. It was delightful to share the Mothering Sunday service with so many of you this morning and thank you to all the children across the Key stage for their contributions to the service. We hope very much that you will enjoy the beautiful Mothering Sunday cards all children have painted this week – there were some great observational skills spotted as the accompanying photos show.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Pulle, Mrs Lindersen and Miss Howe
